This instrument gets its name from the Appalachian Mountains in the USA, where it evolved from various instruments that European settlers had taken to the region. This instrument has a very light and delicate tone and this, with its ease of playing, makes it an ideal instrument for song accompaniment. I make Appalachian dulcimers with three, four or six strings.
The Courting Dulcimer
APD-4
This instrument consists of one large bodied dulcimer with two separate fingerboards in oppo- site directions. This allows two people, sitting opposite each other, to play a duet, each with their own fingerboard.
